it was the beach day of all beach dayz. couldn't have planned it better if we had actually planned it. i love spontaneity. with kids, sometimes i feel like planned events, especially ones that involve multiple families and other kids, never go down as you hope. this trip was the opposite of that. perfect weather, fun kids, fun people, good snacks, a surf lesson and a man-made hot tub. can't ask for more than that. except to always wear sunscreen when at the beach (note to self: must apply sunscreen even when you are mildly cold on the beach the entire time). stella is experiencing her first sunburn experience and, let me tell you, she is not a fan.
i loved watching you ladies dig/roll in/eat/throw/mold sand. stella-girl, you love that sand. you loved putting it on other people, you loved interpretive dancing in it, you and that beach were one. you and i definitely have that in common. jane, you love a wagon. pulling in it ("no, i do! i do!"), riding in it. we have to get one. and horses. there were horses at the beach for a wedding and you were in awe. and are still talking about it.
i mentioned to kelli on the ride home and i'll mention it here because, well, its what i do here, i mention things. on the way home i felt like i was 10 again. sunburned, sandy-toed, worn out (in a good way), with the taste of sunscreen and salt water in my mouth, listening to good music on a quiet, air conditioned car ride home. i wanted to get home and just play barbies or put on a good movie. and guess what, we did both.
thank you kyle for making this great day happen, and thank you ladies for bringing this feeling back into my life.
